Shrewsbury Town vs Sheffield United

Greenhous Meadow

3pm

League One

Last time out saw Shrewsbury Town record their second away success of the season against early season favourites, Preston North End. For the 602 loud Salopians that traveled up to the Butter Pie capital of the world, they will pretty much all say it was one of the worst games football-wise we have seen all season! However, Preston’s only and Salop’s first goal had a bit of finesse about them as the two shots were un-stoppable efforts which gave the turd a bit of polish! However, Shrewsbury Town put another nail into Graham Westley’s PNE career when, right at the end we were awarded a penalty when Marvin Morgan was hurled down in the box. With captain Matt scoring the penalty it gave us three points and made our journey back to Shropshire all the more sweeter!

Onto today’s game! Planet Greenhous is expecting its biggest crowd of the season today as we entertain well-supported steel city giants, Sheffield United. It wasn’t so long ago that The Blades were visiting big teams like Aston Villa, Manchester United and Arsenal in the Premier League but now find themselves playing against not-so-glamorous teams like Walsall FC. With The Shrews un-beaten at home in eight games, you could be excused for thinking that Shrewsbury can get maximum points against United!

Eyes on The Blades

Last Six

My confidence is greatly re-buffed when I take a gander at Sheffield’s last six as it doesn’t look too rosy for the northerners! (In all competitions) we have as follows: Three defeats courtesy of Coventry City, Reading FC and Yeovil Town; Two defeats at the hands of Notts County and Doncaster Rovers and the solitary win away to Oxford United. Sheffield United haven’t won away in the league since 22nd December – another reason which gives us confidence for today.

With The Blades occupying a very precarious sixth spot in League One on 48 points, anything less than a win could see them slip out of the play-off spots and with Shrewsbury in a decent patch of form and looking to further distance themselves from the relegation spots. With Shrewsbury beings four points in front of Colchester United, the gap is already starting to show in favour of us.

Conclusion

My Team:

-Weale-

-Gayle-Jones-Mambo-Jacobson-

-McGinn-McCallister-Summerfield-Taylor-

-Parry-Doble-

Despite the fact that the Preston game was pretty un-inspiring and none of the team really stood out in terms of performance, I am going to stick with the team because if it isn’t broke, don’t fix it! However, if I was to change the team around slightly, I would drop Richards and replace with Summerfield and after hearing about Marvin Morgan, I’ll swap him for Parry. Sheffield United are slipping up a fair bit and with Shrewsbury determination I think we can pull further to safety and can only see a home win today.

.Shrewsbury Town 2-0 Sheffield United.
