Shrewsbury Town vs Notts County

Greenhous Meadow

3pm

League One

Last time out saw Shrewsbury hearts dealt a late blow as Bury undeservedly robbed a point extremely late on in the game. Shrewsbury took a very early lead against fellow strugglers Bury after Marvin Morgan slipped through to Aaron Wildig to put Salop ahead after just 40 seconds! However, after some serious dominance from Shrewsbury Town, one small error from Cameron Gayle allowed Bury to get behind the defensive and equalise. For the remainder of the first half and up until the 64th minute Shrewsbury dominated again and got their rewards, a dazzling run from John Taylor saw him smash us into the lead with an even better finish! With Shrewsbury mounting the pressure further, a cruel twist of fate and some lackluster defending on our part allowed the Greater Manchester team a share of the spoils.

Today Shrewsbury get the chance to right the wrongs that became up in Nottingham at Meadow Lane earlier on in the season and backed by some passionate salopians, it will make for a great game! Notts County currently lie in 8th place and four points off the play-offs compared to The Shrews’ 23 points and three places off the relegation spots. A win for Shrewsbury Town would steer them clearer of danger with the possibility of being five points off the drop zone come the end of the day.

Eyes on Magpies

Last Six

Notts County have lost their last two on the bounce (hopefully three after this game!) and have only won once in the last four games before that (vs great opposition in the form of Paulo Di Canio’s Swindon Town). In fact, for the first time in a while, our last six games (W2, D3, L1) is actually better than the oppositions, a testament to the fact the Salop are on the way up!

Not much has changed in terms of head to head stats apart from they get another win to their tally! Salop do not tend to lose on Boxing Day and when he hit a good patch of form, we can beat pretty much anyone we want and with some style too! If we played this match a month ago I wouldn’t have thought that we had a chance.

Conclusion

My Team:

-Weale-

-Grandison-Jones-Goldson-Jacobson-

-Hall-Richards-Parry-Wildig-

-Morgan-Rodgers-

Obviously I can’t include little John Taylor because of his hamstring so straight away would introduce Asa Hall back into the starting XI. I would also replace Gayle for Jacobson because his error on Friday night vs Bury cost us dearly. No denying that it will be tough against some very good opposition tomorrow and it will be tough going at times if we show lapses like we did on Friday. Having said that, we’re a team on the up and backed by a great atmosphere I am sure we can kick on towards three points!

.Shrewsbury Town 2-0 Notts County.
